Code of Conduct

The following is a link to the 2016-2017 Code of Conduct for students which is issued by the School District of Philadelphia

Emergency School Closing and Delayed Opening

In the event of an emergency closing for the school, KYW 1060 AM will broadcast the announcement on the radio and possibly list it on its website (www.kyw1060.com) and/or the announcement will appear on the School District of Philadelphia’s website (www.philasd.org).

If there is a citywide closing of all public schools, especially during the winter months, KYW 1060 AM will report that all Philadelphia public schools are closed. The announcement will also appear on its website (www.kyw1060.com) and/or the School District of Philadelphia’s website (www.philasd.org).

The school strongly suggests that parents/guardians listen to KYW 1060 AM each morning, especially during the winter months, to be informed about emergency school closings or delayed opening due to weather.

Please refrain from calling the school office to find out if school is closed. The phone lines are needed during this time to communicate with the faculty and the School District of Philadelphia.

INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM

THE INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM AT MEREDITH

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTION AT MEREDITH SCHOOL (Grades 3-8)

Does your child want to learn to play a musical instrument? If selected for the instrumental music program, they will receive a lesson each week and will have the opportunity to perform in an ensemble that plays at various school functions throughout the year. Orchestra (strings) is open to students Grades 3 and up, and Band (woodwind, brass, percussion) is open to Grades 4 to 6.

Playing an instrument well enough to perform in an ensemble takes a real desire to succeed and a serious commitment to practice every day. If your child has the desire and is willing to make that commitment; and, if you are willing to encourage and support his or her efforts at home, please fill out the online interest form at http://goo.gl/PMmrxA. The number of school owned instruments is limited.  However, if a school instrument is not available there are still some fairly inexpensive options.

Everyone who has done it knows that making music with other people is a wonderful experience. We hope your child will be able to share that experience with us.

Sincerely,

Darren Lynch (drlynch@philasd.org)
Walter Bechtold (wbechtold@philasd.org)
Michael Huff (mhuff@philasd.org)
