The Art Studio Buzz – from Mrs. Smith

Dear Meredith Families,

This past month in Art, students have been busy painting, drawing, stamping, and creating with Model Magic. They’ve shown wonderful creativity and commitment to their work while using the Elements of Art to guide their projects.

Room 306 – Windows Into the Universe
Students created two worlds that were completely opposite, using their imagination and creativity as their guide.

Rooms 305 and 302 – Rigor and Beauty
Students learned a stamping technique to design bold patterns and flowers inspired by the colorful artwork of Beatriz Milhazes.

Room 307 – Dragon Eye Sculptures
Students created miniature dragon eye sculptures, focusing carefully on detail, texture, and color.

Rooms 106 and 107 – Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos
Inspired by the book Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos, students sculpted expressive black cats, showing creativity and personality in each piece.

Room 108 – Philadelphia Landscapes
Students painted landscapes inspired by the famous landmark Boathouse Row, capturing the beauty and light of Philadelphia’s riverside scene.

Room 202 – African-Style Coil Pots
Students learned to create coil pots by rolling thin coils out of Model Magic, inspired by coil pots made in various African countries. They used earth tones to paint their finished pieces.

Warmly,
Mrs. Sonya Smith
